What's the lowdown on perkins engines?

I got one in Brutus (~88 hp, turbo)

Nary a drip. (of engine related fluids)

Soundguy,

I had one in a Massey Ferguson 231S. It was a 164 CID, I think. Besides being too loud to suit me it was an excellent engine - Plenty of power, used very little fuel, easy starts, no leaks or problems of any kind.

I've got one in my skidsteer and we have had them in alot of equipment over the years. In my experience they have been pretty reliable with some hard abuse.

No most don’t leak at all even when very old. They are a very well made engine. If a Perkins was put in a compact, I would more that likely buy it. And Yes, Massey is the largest user of Perkins engines in the world. At one time Massey owned Perkins, before the big bang of the eighties. They are now owned by Cat.
