I have the R4's like you and found them to be really slick in wet snow. My tractor is sitting behind my lower bard right now stick in about 12" of fresh wet snow - it will not move, just spin - even in 4x4 with the Diff locked. It is a little slant but not one of our normal mountains. Looks l like chains are in order...

Ain't it suppose to be just a tad drier before attempting to plow:)

This was a wet spot barely bigger then the tractor at the corner of the field. I had no trouble plowing as the furrow gave me solid ground for each pass and while discing I did fine through the entire field except for this spot and one spot on the other side where I had to unhook the disc, pull through and drag the disc through with a chain. This was the last field I turned over this spring and had already planted 20 acres of corn before I started it.

I got stuck moving the 21-24" the last 2 days. In most cases, using the upcurl with the bucket fully down got me out.

If I had a driveway with lots of slope off to one side (my neighbor's is), I'd put lots of tall markers along the side of it. Of course, these wouldn't help if the front end starts to skid sideways. Only chains would help then.

It's tough moving snow with a loader and to keep from going off road too far. I can see that use of a snow blower isn't much help if you don't have the chains to hold your machine on the road.

Knock on wood but I have never been stuck moving snow. We had a 27" dump 3 years ago and 18" dump last year. We had a 36" dump 4 years back but I went out every 4 hours and keep ahead of it by plowing 8" or so at a time.

R1's go right though. My neighbors do have trouble with R4's and Turfs. They call me to dig them out.

Here are a couple pics of my rig and 280' drive.

I have sure been stuck with R-1's, both with, and without chains, and in both snow, and really soft ground. There is the "best of times, and the worst of times" thing going on here, and in the worst of times tire type just doesn't matter at all. :D :D

(we used to break trail across drifted fields in the middle of winter, and again for maple sugaring time.) In the mud, it was bush hogging in a game preserve, and a lot of wet, and rough areas. Having the rotary cutter sitting on the ground behind you with the 3pt all the way up doesn't help. I remember one time I let the tires rotate just once after I sank, and when they came up full to the top with mud, I just shut the key off, and walked a couple of miles to get the dozer........ and it sure was needed. :D
