Hydraulic Filter w/ Broken Magnetic Ring

I went to change my Hydraulic filter today and noticed that the
magnetic ring on the new filter was broken.
About a 1" section was broke away from the ring.
There were numerous small pieces like sawdust at the two breaks.

It was suggested to me that I could remove the broken magnet
and replace it with the magnet from my old filter. I said "no, I don't
think so".
Am I to paranoid. Would this actully be OK to do ??

I dont have any problem with my dealer, He was more than willing
to replace it if "I was not comfortable" using the broken filter.

Replace it...seems a smart thing to do.

Clean the used ring and move on.

There's no harm in using the old magnetic ring once it's cleaned, it'll work as well as it ever did. In fact, I took the ring out of my old hydraulic filter and kept it "for just such an occasion" as Foghorn Leghorn says.. I wonder how the new one got broken?

Depending on your dealer, it may do some harm though. A good dealer will appreciate your being flexible and helping him out. He either has to sell the damaged filter to another customer, try to return it to Kubota as damaged, or just eat the cost.

With the wrong kind of dealer it can set a precedent you won't like too. You don't want him to get the idea he can make a habit of selling you stuff that's less than perfect. "Hmmph.. so and so returned this, set it aside and we'll sell it to Gordon when he comes in next time, he's not too picky."

I was more concerned with debris being in the new filter on the outflow side
from the fragmented ring. I also see no problem using an old ring in the
new filter.

I don't think you need to be worried about small pieces of a magnet moving around in a steel container. They will stick and not move. KennyV
