John Deere 790
I posted here last week. I have a J.D. 790 2007 model and the lights quit working a while back. It all seemed to start when the battery went bad. I replaced the battery and now I have no headlights or turn signals. Whenever I press the hazard light button it lights up, but doesn't flash or the lights don't work. The three red lights on the dash light up, but no gauge lights either. I am not sure if there is a fuse inline somewhere other than the fuse box or a relay somewhere that could have went bad when the battery died. I have checked all fuses and bulbs and they are fine. I have actually had to replace the battery again since the lights went out. John Deere batteries don't seem to be very reliable. If you can help me out at all I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Check around the lights and the battery a little bit. Make sure there isn't a ground wire thats not connected. It may need to be connected to the negative terminal itself, or in many cases it is a 12ish gauge wire that is screwed into the sheet metal or the frame. Good luck!

I'm figuring it's a ground too, but the fuses would be the firt thing to check. Problem is, if it's a ground wire, it might be nowhere near where you'd expect it.
Electrical problems are tough to figure out. I'm not good at them at all. However, the first thing you'll need is a schematic.
I'm hoping someone can post your 2007 790's wirng schematic. I have the service manual, but it's for the early 790.

My car mechanic recommends replacing batteries every 3 seasons in northern climate. (I'm in south-central NH).

I replaced my battery with a Sanel's who re-badge an Exide - stay with Exide, Interstate, or Diehard.

But it could be a dying alternator, or ice/ water getting to battery and grounding out? Is your tractor under cover from snow and ice?

Yes my tractor is in my garage. It has never been left outside. IT is a lil over 3 years old now and has only 100 hrs on it. I will check the ground wires, but i don't think that is it sice I get a light when I push the button in for the hazard lights, it just doesn't flash or light the bulbs. Hopefully I can figure it out soon. I don't use headlights often, but they are nice to have in the evenings when I'm up the road at my field. Thanks for any help you can give.

I had a 2005 790 before I got my Kubota. 3 years was all I got out of the factory battery. That tractor was also stored inside.
Doesn't sound like Deere's battery supplier in those days was the best.

When you say you have checked the fuses does this mean that you have removed them and put them back in their socket. The Headlights and Turn signals and hazard signals all are from the combination switch ( key ) ( I assume ) . I would guess the lead wire to or from the key switch has a bad connection ( oxide ) or poor crimp. Poke around and widdle the connections on the fise block. You bumped something during the battery replacement.

In the OP's original thread I posted both the early and late model 790 schematics.

yep.. i'd follow the volts. grab a vom or ice pick style test lamp and trace back till you find power. last device you jump is the bad connection. DO check fuses first..

I had something like that last week. After letting the snow melt off in the garage (lots of snow removal), first one, then the other hazard light didn't work. The bulbs...OK.........the fuses...OK. But there are a bunch of wires up under the rear fenders that made connections in clear plastic. After taking each one apart and brass brushing each one and reconnecting it, ALL IS WELL.:) Good luck ....this stuff is spooky for my inept ability.
