I don't know where this picture was taken at but it's another sad image of the situation along the Mississippi River. :(

No telling how many tractors and other farm equipment have been flooded under water, and then a lot of farmhouses and barns are underwater as well.

I am sure a lot of deer and livestock have already drowned, and many more will die of starvation because these waters will not recede low enough anytime soon.

I suppose if the water doesn't get any higher than shown, those two tractors could probably be saved. But the deer, I don't think they stand a chance.....

That whole situation is sad all the way round. I hadn't thought about the farm animals and animals like deer. On the news they really just mention the unwanted animals like snakes making their way towards places they shouldn't be. This flood is definitely one for the history books. :(

How's that go -'those that forget history are doomed to repeat it' or 'today's solution is tomorrows's problem'? Sad never the less, but we must remember this is a man made situation. MikeD74T

I hadn't noticed that deere on the porch. Looks like a LA type riding mower to me, not a gator.

Very sad... Most of my family is from the Morgan City area that is under the gun from the recent opening of the Morganza spillway. Scary and eye opening experience for us all.

Mike,

Perhaps I'm not old enough to understand but how is it a man made situation? Are you referring to the levee system?

I live near the Upper Mississippi, about 3 hours north of St. Louis. We have had 2 "100 year floods" since I've lived in the area, which is about 28 years. The water got pretty high this year also, but it was much worse downstream. I remember reading back in the 1990's how the flooding was worse on the upper Mississippi since the lower was wider and had more volume for the water. They more or less said that kind of flooding wouldn't happen on the lower Mississippi. Guess what?
