RaT and Spence,

"Mack's Kidz sized ear plugs" are a WalMart item. They come in different colors. Our kids wear them for airplane rides and occassionally when swimming (also for tractoring with Dad). They''re soft and doughy and our kids seem to tolerate them pretty well.

two items no one else has yet mentioned, though they have received a fair amount of attention here...

OkieG, I may have to resort to ear plugs but I don't think that she would tolerate them as well as ear muffs and I don't want to teach her to put things in her ears.

Re: Most Useful \"Non-implement\" Tractor Accessories

I would have to agree with the air compressor. In addition to all of the other uses already mentioned, I have an air powered chain fall (1/2 ton) that I bought off a buddy for $50.
It is the best buddy I have down in the barn. I hook the compressor to it and just pull the rope to hoist something up so I can work on it, change mower blades, hold something while welding, keep something in the right position for spray painting, etc. If anyone ever has a chance to pick one up at a yard sale or used, snap it up! Alongs you have the compressor to run it, it will be the handiest rig you can own. I even use it when mounting my FEL on the tractor on the rare occassions I take it off. I attach a chain and get it into exactly the right position to mount.

Re: Most Useful \"Non-implement\" Tractor Accessories

Okay okay. I have to add mine too. I was going to say a big cigar. But it's not really a tool, although I enjoy them on the tractor a bunch. Ditto for a cold beer.

Machete - hanging on rops; not as much used anymore as snakes seem to have moved on. but sometimes a low hanging branch needs some adjustment.

Pair of open end wrenches - for replacing shear pin.

Spare shear pin - no explanation needed. (But where did I leave it?)

Gloves - for everything including shear pin replacement

Rag - for when I forget my gloves

Cigar lighter - see above

Rubber boots - most used equipment on my place (although I have been seen on tractor in cheap sandals)

Cheap straw hat - Second most used equipment. (I have no canopy.)

Re: Most Useful \"Non-implement\" Tractor Accessorie

I was thinkin along the lines of a good knowledable neighbour with a well stocked shop and larger tractor to come pull you out when you get stuck.

What does a "chain fall" look like? Can you post a picture?
