Looking at getting a semi trash pump from Northern tool. The initial purpose is to drain and refill a 1/2 acre pond but for long-term use, I need it to do other things. How good are these at watering gardens or putting out a brush fire? I see they have "high pressure" pumps but they don't handle mud or crud well. Pricing is around the same so I just want to get the most versatile thing I can for the long-term.

Thanks.

As you have probably noticed a trash pump is better for high volume at a low pressure delivery whereas the high pressure pump has a lower volume for the same hp. fighting a fire would require a higher pressure to spray a stream of water the greater distances needed. Watering your garden, pumping out the pond are better suited to the trash pump. Now you can get a high pressure pump that will match the delivery of a given trash pump but it will be more expensive and require more hp to utilize.
