Pot Metal Parts
A week or so ago I started a thread about a check chain bracket on my 2615 Massey that broke. Some one sugested putting a magnet to it to see if were pot metal or steel. Got around to trying it today and found there was no magnetic attraction to the pc. Tried it on the replacement part and the magnet stuck right to it. I'm sure alloys have their place but not when you're dealing with a part designed to control a 2,500 lb. implement.
I've been a loyal Massey customer for 18 years , have owned 3 and this kind of thing, though trivial, makes me wonder if that loyalty has been misplaced.
Any one know what goes into pot or white metal. Aluminum, tin, zinc, magnesium?Gear Up and Throttle Down.

Re: Pot Metal Parts
Be glad that someone took the time to correct the part instead of shipping the same old.

Re: Pot Metal Parts
Just a thought.. just because it's non-magnetic doesn't mean it's pot metal. Phosphor bronze isn't magnetic, neither is most stainless steel or titanium, even. It is some sort of alloy, probably.

Re: Pot Metal Parts
One thing for sure is that it isn't steel like it should be. Stainless and titanium would be too pricey. What worries me is what other parts have they made from pot metal?
