Do you do your own tire work or do you have a tire shop you work with? For me I have a good shop I am friends with and it usually costs me $10 for them to fix the tires for me. It doesn't make sense for me to waste my time with them for that price. I just drop them off and pick them up when I go through the next time. Another friend of mine who has way more tires then you and I combined actually has the tire changing machine and other tools and does all his own repairs. Its great if you need a tire fixed when the shop is closed but I prefer to just keep spares for anything that is a common failure (wagon tires mainly).

If we have a spare, or aren't in a hurry for it we usually repair our own tires, but if not I think they patch them in town for about 13 bucks depending on the tire.

Here's a question for those that have a semi. It used to be that a semi was called an 18 wheeler because there were 18 tires on it. Now it is pretty common to see either the tractor, trailer, or both to have an extra wide single tire instead of the duals they used to have. What is the advantage of the singles instead of the duals? I would expect the duals (with twice as much sidewall) to be able to carry a heavier load.

The big singles are lighter and you get better fuel economy and supposedly less failures.
