Where I work, TLA is used a lot.
Example:
Rob: "What's that thing hanging off the vertical residifier called?"
Paul: "You mean the frangistat?"
Rob: No, no ... it's some TLA (Three Lettered Accronym).

I was told by a phone company exec that they beat the military w regards to acronyms. Dunno how true it rreally is, but if youve ever been involved in that business, you'd believe him.

I would back that up. We in telecom have so many acronyms that we confuse ourselves in the industry when we start spouting them.. It is one of my pet peeves, we use far too many and to no good purpose.

I work at the largest computer company in the world. I'm positive that we invented the TLA.
We have acronyms of our acronyms.
In our internal chat client, we have an automated response so you can look up what an acronym means. This search states that it is
"Powered by US Patent 8,171,403 "
A patented search for acronym definitions!!!!
Just looked up an acronym I use daily - FSP. The search came back with 80 definitions. At least the one I know of was second on the list. But the first and third definitions both contained another acronym for the F.
