Here are a few common tractor acronyms off the top of my head. Please add more.


BB- Box Blade
BH- Back Hoe or Bush Hog
3PH or 3pt- Three Point Hitch
PTO- Power Take Off
PHD- Post Hole Digger
FEL- Front End Loader
MMM- Mid Mount Mower
ROPS- Roll Over Protective Structure
HST- HydroStatic Transmission
CUT- Compact Utility Tractor
SCUT- Sub Compact Utility Tractor
TLB- Tractor/Loader/Backhoe
SS- Skid Steer
QA- Quick Attach
TnT or T&T- Top and Tilt
SCV- Secondary Control Valve
ULSD- Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel

A good idea especially for some of us not in the US as we all have different names for machinery and you guys definately have me scratching the noggin a bit trying to work out what you are talking about.

My favourite OT acronym is PFM

In use: Q: How does ?????? work? A: "By PFM" (When I have no idea)

It stands for Pure F!@#ing Magic

My favorite is FRED
A couple of men I worked with had to remove a circuit board. Typed in all the commands ,the switch replied OK to remove .. Worked fine.
Next day had to the same thing on the 2nd switch .. Pulled circuit board out ,half the town lost phone service.. I asked them what happened ,they told me it was FRED fault.. I told them we didn't have a Fred in our work crew .
Then they told me
FRED F_ _ _ ing ridiculous electronic device...

No one has talked about pulling the "TA" lever (torque amplifier) on an Interantional (MTA, 66, 86,...series ?). I never drove the red ones much, but those guys would always talk about like it was some magic rocket booster (well it sort of is).

FWD-Front Wheel Drive
MFWD-Mechanical Front Wheel Drive (found on smaller tractors, SCUTs, CUTs)
HWFD-Hydraulic Front Wheel Drive (used on large ag tractors, construction equipment)
