What motor lasts longer
Everything being equal what motor will last the longest, Diesel or gas???

Diesel....the motor itself, not the starter or fuel pump, or battery, but the engine itself.

Define equal. If stroke, rpm, compression, etc are the same then the characteristics that make a diesel engine last longer no longer give it an edge.....likewise, ramp up a 3000rpm diesel engine up to 6500rpm, or whatever the average small block gas engine runs at, and watch how well the diesel holds together, just don't stand too close!

Diesel is a lubricant, gas is a solvent. Guess which helps the engine last longer?

Equal would be the engine doing the same amount of work.
Why you suggested taking a diesel past its design RPM is mystery to me and does not offer a comparison.Bob, n8zcc
