Backhoe BACKHOES LETS SEE THEM

Dang the bad luck! I was pushing up a brush pile with the backhoe today and I heard a loud pop! Then the backhoe was leaning on its side! Thought I broke an axle! But I broke the inside of the rim!

My backhoe looked a lot like that about 15 years ago, actually I think it might be the same type of hoe. Mine is a Sherman hoe on a 1964 ford 621. Well anyways I did break the axle and the tire was on the ground I had to lift the tractor with the outrigger to get it off of the tire, forget getting it in the garage at that point!

First on the list is lots of stumps, big & small.
Next, I was thinking of using it to hold an implement in the air for painting.
Next is digging some pools for wildlife.
Then some runoff drainage pipe work.
By then I should have enough skill developed to tackle some foundation drainage work & house addition work.
If I don't do too much damage with it, it should pay for itself in a year or two.

Nice to have the backhoe when you need it. Living on a steep property washout has become a problem. Decided to build a retaining wall and catch basin drained by a 6" covered drainage pipe.

Called in the big boy to help with the retaining wall due to the size of stones required. Even with my thumb the CK20 would not do.

Once the wall was complete though I took over filling in the pit and digging a 70 foot trench 5 feet deep to direct the water into the bush. Pipe was placed in the trench and covered with clear stone. I will now grade the driveway to direct runoff into the pit. The stone cover over the pipe will allow me to collect any water running down the driveway.

This was a fun project and just one of many that I was able to do thanks to some good equipment.

3 days old:

First thing I did was dig a hole and pull a rock out with the hoe/thumb. Problem was, the rock ALMOST fit in the bucket, and the thumb made sure it did. I couldn't get the rock out of the bucket...it was crammed and jammed right in.

I had to get a large crow bar and pry it out.

LOL the stuck rock, but better to pry it from the bucket than from the ground..
