Who owns the most tractors?

/ Who owns the most tractors? #31
One question I have. Why own several tractors if your just a normal owner and not a collector or enthusiast?

I have - Farmall M (relic)
Massey Ferguson 1080 (operational)
Kubota mx5100 (less than 1 year old)
various lawn tractors of which only 1 currently works.

The Farmall M stays in the barn unless I have another member of our family that wants to restore it. Too much family history to sell. MF 1080 took a lot of my time keeping it going and didn't have a FEL so I bought the Kubota - but it's still nice having a big tractor around when you need it.

Reason I ask is I'm currently trying to decide whether to keep the MF1080 or sell it. It's kind of nice to have another tractor if one has problems - but with 4 vehicles and 2 running tractors I'm starting to feel like I'm spread fairly thin. Then again when I see how many some of you have I think maybe I'm just getting started on my collection.:)

In my opinion these days it's not a totally bad idea to have some money wrapped up in tractors. Some are worth as much or more than when they sold new thirty or forty years ago. I sold my MF 255 last year. I had it 15 years and I got $1500 less than I paid for it. If I had bought a used car and kept it that long it would be in the scrap pile and worth hardly anything.

And as emissions get tighter they might hold their value for a few more years.

652 new Mahindra tractors in stock as of this afternoon, but I doubt you meant this for dealers/distributors!

One thing for sure, everyone should have multiple tractors!

let there be a moment of silent reverence...
MBTrac, that's really quite amazing.
Now if you lived in the US, you'd have to have a gigantic ranch in Texas. Everything is large in Texas...
You must have a full time parts guy to back up your repair techs.

C'mon SoundGuy, wake up, the competition is, well, awesome, but we know you can do it.

thanks MBTrac for listing all that. Your fleet of earthmoving equipment is quite remarkable.

Thanks - a little unsure if this many tractors is a something everyone should aspire to or be certified (insane) for having - but it sure keeps us occupied :D

Unfortunately we don't have the vast "Texas" style single ranch - our farms are spread across two states (NSW & Victoria) & c.1200kms/750miles so travelling is part & parcle of the our lifestle choice - we regularly crop upwards of 13,000acres+ (during the last 12months it was 23,000+) dryland across the farms + more share cropping/contracts, though there's been a few years where it's been close to zero because of drought- we also farm lesser areas of irrigated crops @ c.3000acres+, dryland/irrigated silage/hay @c.2400acres & a cattle feedlot/paddock cattle/a few thousand sheep.

We run 1 main workshop for major rebuilds/repairs + two mobile field repair tech's & yes there's a full time parts/service scheduling & planning guy.

Consider also a lot of our non-essential (though nice to have) gear is aged , so for example the combined worth of our listed "3. Farm Earthmoving Gear " is less than the cost of a single new 250hp ag tractor.....a simlar story on some of our listed "Commercial Earthmoving Gear" where for the price of a single new D8 I can own a reliable fleet of 2xD7G's + a D4D + Case 450C + Case 1455B + Cat935 + the old Cat941 & still have change....

And in ag tractors it strikes me as extraordinary value I could recently buy our 300hp Case 4890 in sound condition for c.$13K & yet I also payed not long ago c.$6K for our 15hp JD415 to mow lawns - still can't figure the logic & value of the small tractor market  (unfortunately logic goes out the window here as my wife wouldn't take too kindly to the Case 4890's 28,000lb wheel tracks in the lawn...... hence the JD415)

Anyways who owns the most tractors is irrelevant as an average day in any sized tractor seat IMO sure beats a great day sitting in an office.....
