Do you have a multi-meter to measure the resistance of the old coil, and new ballast resistor? In some cases, you need both the OEM ballast resistor, and an additional resistor to keep the current low enough to prevent cooking the old 6V coil.

Sep 14, 2013 / just bought 8n ford #13 Soundguy Old Timer Joined Mar 11, 2002 Messages 52,238 Location Central florida Tractor RK 55HC,ym1700, NH7610S, Ford 8N, 2N, NAA, 660, 850 x2, 541, 950, 941D, 951, 2000, 3000, 4000, 4600, 5000, 740, IH 'C' 'H', CUB, John Deere 'B', allis 'G', case VAC yep. oe ballast resistor always needed. from there.. if it is a 6v coil.. you also need an 8ne10306 resistor.. or need a newer 2.5 ohm '12v' coil.. etc..
