Hi All. New to this forum. Recently got my first compact utility tractor. Looking for guidance on basic maintenance. Tractor is used, bought new in May of 2012 with only 30 hours on it to date. No reference in manual that I can see about time verses hours with respect to oil change and so I am wondering if I should go ahead and change the oil ahead of the 50 hour requirement since this oil is 18 months in use or just finish putting another 20 hours on it, which should be easy to do with all that I have planned for it. I know some mfgs put graphite or other break in elements in the first oil fill, so thought I might just put another 20 hours on it and call it good. Thanks. J

Welcome Farmer J! There is a lot of knowledge on this site that will be able to help you out. Nice tractor by the way :)

Since you don't know how the hours were put on, short operating times, insufficient heat build up, condition of storage etc., I would jut go ahead and change the engine oil, it doesn't hold much and is easy to do. I doubt it will hurt not to, but you will feel better I imagine.

I don't normally worry about oil staying in a tractor a long time, but I know how my machines are used.

Jeff, Thanks for the link. I tried that search earlier but got no results and am having trouble viewing your search. I seem to keep getting kicked out and having to log in again. I am changing some brower settings to see if that helps.

Welcome to TBN, I would dump the Oil and filter now and at 100 hours.

It's a bit overkill, but I modified all of the drain plugs with neodymium magnets. Also added o-ring type drain plug gaskets. Below are a few pictures to help with the modifications.

Milled the center of the drain plug to accept the magnet. Neodymium or rare earth magnets are very powerful.
