I've always been curious to what kind of hours you can get out of 100+Hp Diesel engine.

My 60 hp Perkins/caterpillar has almost 300 on it now, is a realistic number for just the engine itself(not the surrounding parts that will probably give me trouble) around 5500 hours until serious oil consumption starts taking place? I know there are tons of variables, but what's your record number of hours?

This will vary all over the place. I have a 105 HP Deere at over 9000 hours, no issues other than very slight blow by. It is going strong, no rebuilds, serviced regularly. You will get responses with many more hours than that.

We have a 60Hp Isuzu at 9600. Oil pump is getting a bit weak but thats it. Most of the I 6 Deeres were in the 8000 range when needed rebuilt. CJ

I've seen some diesel engines go over 15,000 hrs with no problems. Good maintenance program helps a lot. I've got a '91 model JD 4255 that I bought used in Feb.'93 that has 10,800 hrs on it with no overhaul.

Hello aronia farmer MF 135,(45 hp) from memory 11000 hours, MF 178 (75 hp) 7800 hours on a clock that hadn't worked for 10 years, MF 6190 (120 hp) 9100 hours 1 contractor owner, JD 6910 (140 hp)12800 hours, 3 contractor owners.
Generally if you change oil, coolant, and filters by the book you will have many years of reliable service from your tractor.
