I think wildlife can be in shock a bit from stress, that may be why the hawk was still for a bit.
I once found a little bird that had knocked itself out on a window pane in the garage. It was a migratory bird, very pretty brilliant blue feathers. So, I picked it up and warmed it in my hand holding it very loosely. It came to after 2-3 minutes, sat up, looked around, pooped in my hand and flew away. :laughing: No good deed goes unpunished as they say.
