QUESTION: any problem adding larger front tires?

I'll attach my Kubota L5030 spreadsheet I made something like 10 years ago. The mechanical ratio is listed for an L5030, its different for different tractor models, can't assume this number!

Hmm, seems to be missing the calculator part but you get the idea.

This comment, and the last, were uncalled for, unnecessary, and insulting. There's simply no need for that, whether you like the way someone types, or what they have to say, or not.

Excuse me while I blow milk from both nostrils laughing. GManBart post February 6 at 11:57PM, this thread: "Over and out? It's one or the other, not both....both makes you look look like a 70s sitcom, and that isn't a fate any TBNer deserves."

BTW, I'm a 60's sitcom.

You lucky dog you! My dream tractor! How do you like it so far?

Thanks! So far so good. I'm liking the cab for sure, and the auto throttle is probably my favorite feature.

Just got a surprise hour of seat time on her ... got back from a long trip and had to spend an hour getting my truck & trailer unstuck in my driveway ... got sucked into a snow bank from all the snow and I want home to plow it.

Just what I wanted to do after 16hrs of driving. But, at least I had a heated cab & radio.

Okay tire-math wizards... riddle me this:

I currently have 14.9x24 rears on 12" wide rims. I've asked around but can't find an answer yet... can't find a dealer that will answer it so far. Can I fit 17.5Lx24 rears on these rims? They are roughly the same height, just wider. Part 2 of that... IF they fit the 12" rims, will they change the overall height, and if so, by how much? Part 3 of that, IF they change the the overall height, would that affect the ratio enough to need to change to 12x16.5 fronts instead of the 10x16.5 ?

2nd question as an alternate: Will 16.9x24's fit on my rear 12" wide 24's ? Is the ratio of the 16.9x24 rears to 12x16.5 fronts, the same ratio as 14.9x24 rears to 10x16.5 fronts ?

Boy, that's a lot to absorb TSO.

This usually starts a lengthy discussion with varied opinions.

My opinion about changing tire size is that it definitely changes the stresses put upon the driveline. Would you consider putting different sized tires on one axle of your 4x4 truck without changing the other 2??

As to the rim width issue. You can mount almost any tire on almost any width rim. How the tire reacts is the issue. If the larger tire is recommended to be on a certain width rim, I say that's what you should use. Again, there will be plenty of discussion about this as well.

This thread is leading to the inevitable. Opinions.....

While it is true that theory and math regarding rolling diameters, gear ratios and "stress" might be considered, the big unknown is SLIP. Something that every tire experiences while performing it's task. And this goes for automotive as well as industrial and ag usage.

MY Opinion? (not that it matters) Put ANY size tire and wheel you want on your rigs, but just be mindful of how much "chirping and snatching" of the drive line is going on.

If there is none, then there are no unresolved stresses. (NO PROBLEMS) If there is a lot of jerky motion on what ever surface you are operating on, That's not good, and something needs to change.
For me, the surfaces that offer conditions where slip is inhibited and stresses due to rolling radius would be present, do NOT call for FWD. Disengage! just like the operting hand book describes!
Same as using the dif lock. (Someone please tell me why FWD is needed on hard surfaces for loader work. I have not found this to be consistant with my experience)

It's all just common sense ;-)

My L4200 is similar to the OP's question, except the reverse.
I bought this tractor with "28's" on the rear and 16" on front.
The tractor call's for "24"s on the rear.
The rear tires are almost done and will have to be replaced.
Never had issues.

It looks like you have 13.6X28's on the rear? If so, they are almost the same size as 14.9X24's. Like I posted earlier in this thread, when I bought my JD 4500, I had a choice from the factory of 13.6X28 or 14.9X24 for the rear, and both were mated to 8X16 fronts.
