Where I live they change from green to brown
Same here in the Pacific NorthWest.
I had never seen fall colors in person (Grew up in So. Calif)
When we moved to Alabama, I went up to Lookout Mountain, Tennessee on the way (to see the hang glider site)
It's near Chattanooga.
I had seen pictures of fall colors - mostly building jigsaw puzzles.
I distinctly remember coming around a corner on a mountain road where the trees
almost formed a tunnel over the road - and either the sun came out from behind the clouds at the same time,
or I drove out of the shadow of the mountain. Anyway, as I came around the corner, the trees were lit
up by the sunshine, and the autumn colors literally took my breath away.
It literally felt like the air went out of my lungs - I don't think I can explain the sensation.
We lived in Northern Alabama, and there was one road that was similar (near Decatur, AL)
I miss driving that road in the fall (and all the other times, actually). I really miss
seeing the fall colors each year.
That experience makes me think that I want to go up to Alaska some day and see the
northern lights (aurora borealis) in person. I've heard that it too is one of those
things that you have to see in person to appreciate it.
Someday I will have to try to find the pictures I took that day in Chattanooga.
