I hear that a company makes a rear wheel mounted mounting kit that allows you to use regular weights from a standard gym type weight lifting set. the idea seems simple but I don't know if it will work as well as standard (but expensive) wheel weights.

Has anyone used this system? Any pros and cons? Do they clatter, break, etc?

Hi...

Waiting for delivery of that hardware kit right now... so I have no use history....

Bought (6) 50# barbell plates... ~50 cents a pound new...

This setup is about 1/2 the cost of tractor wheel weights...
Will be easier to mount/dismount the weights... just 1 nut to remove...
Easier to change amount of weight...

Please let the TBN members know where you got the kit as I would like to try them myself. Thanks.

Yes - EZweights. They are great!

The brackets are about $36/pair and hold 1" plate weight. I bought my used weight for about 20 cents a pound from a Play it Again Sports store. 400lb = about $80 + brackets = about $85, incl tax and shipping. I have had them a year and have had absolutely zero problems with them.

They are simple to get off and on, since you only handle up to 50lbs at a time. During mowing season, they are off (along with the loader) when moving and on when using the loader. Takes less than 3 minutes. No rattles. Very stable. Highly recommended!

Seems like a better alternative. Is 400 lbs on the back enough for a JD4500?

Here's a link about my experiences with a set of brackets 5030 made for me. No clattering, no breaking just cheaper than the OEM set up.

Mine are almost the same way as Ez's. I made mine about 4 years ago, long before Ez came to the bar. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif There are not negatives compared to factory weights. They are less costly and easier to put on and remove. I would recommend this type on weights for anyone that needs wheel weights.
