Farmall M Serial Number

I recently bought a what I thought was a 1948 model year M but when I looked at the serial tag it did not come remotely close to any thing I had seen. The Serial number is 12540 and the last number is either an 8 or a 9 it is hard to tell. I am wondering if any one has some info on this.
