Hello TBN members, need some advice. Owners of box blades: How straight, flat, or parallel do you expect your blades to be. I bought a new box blade and when I bolted the blades to the box they have a curve to them along the length, if I was to hold a level on the bottom of the blade it is not flat. Is this anything to be concerned about or do the blades get ground flat when you use then. I have no experience with box blades so you input is appreciated.

I think you could get help if you post some pictures of this situation. For me, its a little difficult to picture what you are describing.

Ok, thank you. When it's light out tomorrow I'll take a pic.

A guess, with no photos to look at:

If the blades bolt to an angle iron, like this but inverted )V( I suspect the angle may be curved due to warping when welded. This would make straight blades curve when mounted.

It certainly isn't going to help! They should be straight. Without pics my SWAG is to return it for something that is a little higher quality.

Good advice right there.

Really busy today and did not have time to take photos, but you have described the problem, when I lay a straight edge on the V portion it is not flat, so when you bolt the blades down tight it flexes the blades and you no longer have a straight blade. Question I have for you all, did you check your box blade to see if the blade was flat or are you just assuming it is. My opinion is that it should be dead flat since you're using it for grading purposes, but I don't know what the industry standard is.

Are you sure your bucket is flat?

Edit for brain fart:ashamed:
Sorry I meant the heavy angle iron mounting on the box blade. Is it flat or bowed in the middle? A good straight edge should determine whether the grader blade or the box blade is the problem. If the box blade mounting is straight you should be able to pull the blade straight with the mounting plow bolts. If the box blade mounting is bowed slightly you may try shimming between the blade and mounting. Otherwise I would just use it as is.

My bucket and box are flat! Wouldn't want or have it any other way.
