I have a JD 3038e with only 70 hours on it - been running it for the past year or so. Recently, I noticed that when using the lift lever for the 3-pt hitch (rockshaft lever?), the tension is very high. It takes a bit to move it from position 1 to 9 and the reverse. The dealer mentioned a "speed drop/lock valve" located under the seat (photo) and suggested I try to crank that to see if the tension is fixed. Problem is, there isn't a problem with the raise/lower speed of the 3-pt hitch. Additionally, from what I can see, that knob hasn't cranked itself (nor can I easily crank it without a tool). Rather, the problem seems to be at the lever. I haven't seen any other posts about this, so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to adjust that tension in the lever before I mess with that raise/lower speed valve?

Welcome to TBN

A little DW-40 on the lever linkage joints maybe ??? Just a guess.

You are right - the speed valve adjustment should not have anything to do with the lever stiffness.
