My tractor is located at my remote property so it doesn't get started much this time of year. Do I need to take any special precautions when starting it after long layovers in cold weather?

Is your battery on a maintainer? If no power at remote location take battery home with you to keep charged there. Top off fuel before letting it sit to reduce water condensation inside tank.

But starting to use it again... I can't think of anything special to do. Normal maintenance, check fluids, lube, tighten nuts/bolts.

Check your oil and radiator coolant level , hyd oil level, check air filter for mice:laughing:

Check all the fluids, drain the fuel filer looking for water. if you have power and the temperatures are below 40F, plug in the block heater for a couple of hours and then start it up.

+1 on Darrow comments, I don’t use my tractor for snow, so it sits for months.
No problem to date

Take your battery inside for the night to fully warm it up, and charging it wouldn’t hurt either. The other option would be to jump it from your running vehicle assuming it has a beefy battery if the tractor is cold soaked.

Here is my thoughts, your getting pretty far south and are probable safe. But for no more than the price I'd put in a fuel supplement. Like I say, your probably safe, but why take a chance. I've been caught twice already gelling up but we've been below zero. Power service and hoses are both pretty go fuel supplements. Other than that I pretty much agree with the other posts.

Ps. The supplement brands should be power service and howes. I don't know how the "hoses" got there.

As other said also check to see if any critters made nest or chewing.

Rodent check first. Quick inspection. Give it a little glow plug and give it a start. Mine sometimes sits for months. Still on original battery (12 years!) with no trickle charge, etc. Cold has not been an issue. Rodents have!! If it starts bump the throttle up a tiny bit and let it run a few minutes then take it for a spin.
