I am attempting to rebuild the cylinders (this is my first attempt ever at anything like this) for the bucket on my Ford 1708 FEL (attached to a Ford 1720).

So far I've been able to cover myself in oil, and get the lock nut off. But I have not been able to figure out for the life of me how to get the snap ring off so I can finish disassembling the cylinder.

Any words of advice?

Hopefully I can post a pic showing my dilema later.

Many thanks in advance!

Eric,

I can't see the ring in the pictures. But, I use a set of pics. One with a straight point to hold one side and one with a 90 degree bend right at the end to manipulate the ring out.

have to push the packing gland back into the cyl then take couple of small screw drivers or picks and pry the ring out then the packing head will come out to assemble just do the same in reverse

ditto on the small screwdrivers. Ford liked to use those snap rings with a inverted relief... almost like they MEANT it to be picked with a screwdriver.. etc..
