Harbor Freight Tools that don't suck

I'll tell you about a great deal we bought a Harbor Freight...WE bought an electric meat slicer for around $30.00 some months ago...the thing is great..we can buy an eye of round or bottom round roast..put it on the grill for an hour or so ( med. rare ) and let it cool ..then slice it Deli thin...This slicer works better than one we bought some years back for around $150..and it was junk. We also use the slicer for cheese, potatoes and other veggies...It has worked great for us..easy to use , operate and clean...

Actually I needed some wire loom to protect the wiring on my trailer and HF is about the cheapest place around.

My question is what do I do with 7 free multimeters, 6 free tape measures, 5 free sets of screw drivers, two pair of cheap but free split leather gloves and 4 free wood clamps? Oh, and about 20 LED flashlights. Maybe time for a garage sale.

I've had good luck bartering a handfull of those freebies for something I can use, at the used tool store downtown. If you don't have a store like that nearby, maybe carry a bag of them around at the flea market for barter.

Wood clamps - can never have too many, although the ones at HF are probably the crap plastic ones.

Multimeters - I now have one in each vehicle, including the motorhome and the travel trailer, one in the snowmobile trailer (because the truck it is attached to is too far away?), one in the shop, one in the garage, and one in the office. Ditto for the flashlights.

Also, for the flashlights, it seems that the kids *always* manage to lose them, so whenever I get a couple extra ones and we plan a vacation, I give the extras to the kids to lose for me.

Yeah, the split leather gloves - hardly worth the time. I do keep a pair by each wood stove. Oh, and they work great for when the cat needs to go outside but doesn't want to. (My opinion is that cats are outdoor animals. The wife doesn't share that opinion).

Never got any of the free screwdrivers. I just always opt for the flashlights. Do a Google search if you need a free flashlight coupon.

Oh, and you can dump those on eBay if you really want to get rid of them. Amazing how much HF stuff you find on eBay for 2x the price you can get it for at HF.

I let out my 10" tile saw again. I see they paint it blue now, mine's that ugly orange color. The saw has cut all the tile in my house and about 5 other houses now. This time it got used for cutting paver stones. My coworker said it cuts through them with ease. I'm on my second blade now, the first one was a Husky and now I have a MK.

I used to think the HF free leather gloves were a great deal until I actually used a pair. Maybe I have unusually long fingers--I don't think so--but it seems the fingers on the gloves are only maybe 70% of what they should be. It's a really awkward feeling. You would think most people have have similar length fingers?

Yeah. As for any of HF's felt-lined 'utility gloves', forget it. The fingers are too short even for me (short wide hands and fingers) and the lining wads up, preventing a good grip. The orange ones they give away free were worst. The 'five pair for $5' gloves were just as bad for fit, and soon wore through or tore. They might be ok for shoveling, but not for handling anything that could snag.

I like the unlined cowhide Roping Gloves and buy a couple years' supply when they go on sale. The fingers are (just) long enough, they are flexible and snug like a second skin, and they retain a good sense of touch. These work well for general use and especially for digging out blackberry tangles where a cloth-back glove would snag, rip, and allow thorns to come through the back.
