Gear box on my 7ft rotary cutter leaked out the oil and by the time I noticed it, the main gears were shot. I understand that this model howse cutter had a 100 hp gear box which seemed excessive but, that's what I understand.

Does anyone know where I can pick up a good and inexpensive gearbox in the 75 to 100 hp range? I tried agri supply but, they didn't have anything that I could see.

Thanks

Are the gears shot or the bearings?

I broke a gear in a Bush hog brand batwing once. If you can get the gears, bearings and seals from Howse it is not difficult to rebuild the gearbox as long as the housing isn't damaged. The bearings and seals should also be available at an independent bearing supply. Be sure and get the spacers that adjust how tight the gears mesh when you order the gears though. Too tight will cause them to heat up in a hurry.;)

How about these guys, or these guys. The latter seems to sell only Howse parts...

If you have the HD7, they list the gearbox: G104 75 PRC81146 GEARBOX, 100HP 7' & 8' CUTTER (CHEETAH) $315.31
