I have several grease zerks that were not masked when the machine was powder coated. Any suggestions on removal.

A very sharp single edge razor blade across the flat on the end works for paint. If you do indeed have powder coat, and a razor does not work, dab a drop of paint stripper on the end. Paint stripper will remove powder coat.

Try some heat with a heat gun or torch, then an angle grinder with
wire brush. You only need 400-odd deg F to fully soften the plastic.
Of course, if you don't want to mess up the surrounding area, you will
need to protect it from the brush.

Angle grinder worked directly. The zerks are made of tough material. Thanks for the replies.

Old thread, but for the price of a zerks fitting, I'd simply replace them with fresh new ones.

Assuming it was a new tractor, tell the dealer you expect them all to be replaced. I got a full set given to me as I didn't want to bring my tractor the 80km to the dealer.

Just use some MEK. Methyl Ethyl Ketone. It was used in the military to strip paint off of aircraft. If you throw a rag soaked with MEK on someones car, it will strip the paint to the metal and really get their attention.

Just use a little bit and rub the paint and you will see only metal finish.

I'm with hankus.
Replace them for 12 cents a piece.

I have always just used my pocket knife to knock the paint off.

If that was a new bit of kit i would have wanted it ready to work from the dealer
and if they didn't grease it then there not doing there job right

If it was secondhand then did you really want something that has never been greased

Just a thought:eek:
