I have a 18hp kohler that blows the dip stick out of the engine, when I start it in cold weather. It is a k361QS, I have removed and clean the vent, it will help for a couple of cold weather starts then the problem returns. I put the dip stick back in the engine and it runs fine... when it is warm I don't have this problem.

Try a thinner oil or use synthetic. That might help you.

I have a JD 312 with a 12hp Kohler it did that a couple of time last year or the year before. Hasn't done it again. Don't know what caused it. Once it started it would suck the dipstick back in tight. I wonder what the cause is myself.

I will try lighter oil that is synthetic and I will let you know if it helps. I am sure that Minnesota will let me test it in some cold weather in the next couple of months. thanks
