This is apparently what happens when a shear bolt doesn't shear. You can see the hub is split, and you can also see the key that has rotated out of the keyway and jammed the hub on the shaft. The hub will NOT come off. I would cut it off with a torch, but I'm out of acetylene.:(

I think I will try drilling next to the key to weaken the hub and relieve the pressure. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll buy a new tank of acetylene.

At least we are under a lake effect snow advisory today. :D I'd better put the loader back on the tractor.

Snowblowers and rocks don't mix. I manually removed all rocks bigger than a golf ball from my 900' lane in November. So far so good...knock on wood.

I believe you have captured the entire moment in a perfect exposure. You know the rest.
Have you tried a minigrinder with a ZIP blade? They cut as fine as a hack saw but do have a much shorter run time. They are fairly new on the markert. The hardest part with them is to get older style minigrinders to grip a < 1/8 " blade. I just flip over one of my lock wheels.

Sucks man.

About the Ace, gear yourself up with a propane adapter and a propane tip. That way you can use ace most of the time and propane when you need it (or vice versa)

Ouch !!

I was getting kinda nervious because I used my snowblower all last winter and never sheared a bolt. I even moved some iced over snowbanks to see what it takes to shear a bolt. Still did not shear a bolt.
This year I have used the blower 3 times and sheared 4 PTO shaft bolts.
I think I feel better now that I am being plaqued by the shear bolt goddess.

I suspect this is what happens when you have a poorly designed snowblower with out shear bolt protection on the impeller. I looks very similar to my 59" front mount blower on my JD 3720. I think the fact that you have a key there means the bolt is meant for attachment, not as a shear bolt. I have not seen a shaft with a shear bolt that also had a key, may be possible but I've never seen it.
