Ford 3910 86'
I have a cracked power steering line. It goes from the right side hydraulic ram to a block on the steering column. How can I tell the difference between the feed side and the return side?
It's about a $30 part, so I don't want to buy em both if I can help it.
The tractor is a 1986 Ford 3910.

At the ram, it's the upper line. Up on the steering shaft, it's the inside line.
If it helps, the crack is on the flare. I do not have a flaring tool.

When the ram is extending, one line will have pressure, and when the cyl is retracting, the other line will have pressure. If only one line is cracked, replace that line.

Hi J J.

I know which line is leaking. It's the one that attaches to the upper part of the ram.
The lines have 2 different part numbers.
E4NN3A562BB TUBE Pressure Tube Assy. $24
E4NN3A563BA TUBE Return Tube Assy. $33

I'm trying to figure out what tube to buy. I have the owners manual but it does not specify what tube does what.

You dealer should have the pictorial layout, in the parts section.

I have a parts list but no dealer. Anyone know where, in central Alabama, is a dealer? I've tried on-line. No help there.

What about visiting your local hydraulic shop and getting a hose made....Mike

just braze it... will last as long as the orginal line.

could union in a piece of brake line.. or heck.. COPPER line. btdt.. my 4600 has copper 3/8 off the pump.. been like tht for looooooong time.

copper is not my first choice. for those lil lines.. I'd union in brake line.. or i'd simply have it brazed. quick job... cheap.. easy.. no guessing about part numbers.

ford ps pressures are way below regular ag hyd operating pressures...
