John Deere 2040 hydraulic leak

Monday in shop class i get to take the school's 2040 apart to replace a leaking hydraulic hose. To me I see it as an opportunity to learn a little about how the 2040 work's and get the hydraulic fluid off the shop floor as it is a hazard and liability on the school waiting for someone to slip and fall on the slick concrete. The problem hose is the siphon hose but to get to it requires removing the front weight, the hood, and many other things. Supposedly it is a 4 hour job, I guess we will see how long it takes. I attached a few pictures of the problem area and teh serial number, not sure if that will help me looking for a parts diagram or not, I will find out soon. Any procedure ideas to make it go a little faster/easier are welcome as well as any advice. Thanks guys!

Here is the diagram of the area I will be working around. I think that hose 18 is leaking but would you start at the pump? This is just the breather hose that leaks, It siphons hydraulic fluid from the pump once the tractor is shut off and leaks especially bad when it is parked warm. Any suggestions on if it is the hose or is it the pump itself? I have taken the hydraulic pump off my Yanmar before but didnt go any further into it. Could it be the hose or something else?

Got it fixed today. There is a piece of sheet metal under the frame between the hydraulic pump and the front axle. Pulled two bolts, pulled off the old hose, put in the new one, hooked it all up and the leak is no more. However, the lift cylinders on both sides leak and need rebuilt and the air filter is "black" with hydraulic fluid, grease, and gunk. It was really in sad shape, at least we got it fixed. Spent 2 class periods on it, got it somewhat cleaned out, the radiator was very bad, got it cleaned up. :thumbsup:

G'day sorry i did not see this a little earlier as this bleed hose is a common failure on those models i would suggest to you and your instructor that you replace all of those bleed hoses i think from memory there is one that goes back to the right side of the trans too. Well done though it sound like you have a little bit of work ahead of you yet
