Just got a quick quote for replacement front tires for my tractor. They're 10 x 16.5 R4's. How much do you suppose they quoted me? Here's a hint, I almost fell over when I heard the number. He's supposed to call me back with another number tomorrow. I'll put up the price quoted per tire in a couple hours in case someone wants to guess.

I think I paid 250$ ea. Retreads were 350$ or so but I'm told they last longer than new.

Well, I was quoted $335 ea. and that's not mounted. I found some online for about $300 for a pair including shipping. I don't put much wear or tear on my tractor. I average less than 50 hours per year. Most of that's snow plowing. I'm thinking about going with the ones online and saving over $300.

Got a second quote today from same outfit. They quoted $225 each. Called a tire store down the street from me and they quoted me $165 each for 10 ply.

The tires are on and look great. I saved at least $120 by going with my local tire dealer instead of the implement dealer.

On a side note, I asked the owner of the tire store if he recommended inner tubes. He said he did NOT recommend inner tubes and told me to put tire sealer in them if I have a leak. The old tires had green slime in them when I brought them in and he said it didn't matter at all.
This is the same guy that patched a tire on my truck for me when I was told by another tire dealer that it couldn't be patched. That happened on the morning of my wedding over 4 years ago and that patch is still holding fine and has never leaked.

He's got all my future business now.

Glad you found a local solution there. I just wanna plug an outfit to check out that certainly worked for me .. all new rubber for my ole '52 8N here .. including very hard to find Four Rib fronts .. was only 90 bucks for shipping on a pallet, to California. Nebraska Tire .. also .. lotsa blems for great discounts as well.

Now ... I didn't mount these puppies .. I had Les Schwab's come up and put all new rubber on my '50 Austin Western Super 88 H .. just had the service guy do it for hourly ... great plan. After the grader, the 8N was a piece of cake :)

The local tractor dealer here informed me that the reason for higher tire prices is the Excise Tax. It's gone up over 100% in the last year. You know who to thank for that, I'm sure. :(

I think that is skid steer size... maybe, maybe SOME skid steers ?
Anyway, IF it is that COULD explain some price variation.
It might also explain why a local tire guy (non Ag) might have them and/or may be able to give good prices.

BTW, I thought the excise tax was only on ROAD tires - BICBW &UA

Buying 10-16-5nhs tire for the Kubota tomorrow. quoted $300 for 2 mounted, disposed and taxed. I am "land sitting" for a buddy of mine, Its his tractor and His son has popped the same tire off the tractor two times in 3 weeks. this time I couldnt get it beaded, I tried for over an hour. Gave up and went to tire shop, The got it aired up then saw that air was leaking out of cracked sidewalls. unmounted to tube it, and saw bad cords on inside. They said that a tube wouldnt last and he wouldnt warranty it. at $ 75 to tube it and take our chances, or 150 to replace it and be done fighting it, I called the owner and he said " Go get the other front tire and change them both" I like the way he thinks. I sure could get used to spending his money :) so im stopping by the farm after work, putting the flat back on. driving it up out of the woods( very carefully) and getting it to level ground and pulling both fronts off. will try and get pictures of the shiney new shoes and post after its all fixed.
