I'm finally working on the junkyard 4x4 Satoh Beaver.

It had a clanging noise in the gearbox and would not shift so I took the shifter plate off and drained the water/oil out.

So far I've found a bolt that was missing from the plate. (OOPS! Who needs that part?)

I'm sure there will be some other parts visible by tomorrow when everything drains out.

I found the shifter broken and one of the detent ball bearings missing.

It's probably in the bottom of the gear box.

Someone had done two small spot welds on the shaft in the past which failed.

My question is it worth trying to repair the shifter?

The PTO works but the lift does not go up.

I'm trying to decide if it's worth repairing or if I should part it out.

The 3 cylinder diesel runs good.

The fix is definitely worth trying. If you have reservations about it, look for a replacement. There is a guy on ebay that is currently parting a Beaver out and has lots of parts listed, might contact him. Valley Power or Len Sheaffer might have a parts machine.

I'm gonna try using my mig welder on it. If it wont hold then I 'll have to find a replacement.

I got a real good look at the gears yesterday and some a really beat up.

I'm checking ebay right now. Thanks you for the help.

He has some gears listed on ebay right now. I think the mig will work fine on the shift lever.

Kernopelli,

I had my brother come over today and weld the broken shifter parts together.

Looked good and I wacked it several times with the hammer and it didn't fall apart so I gonna say it gonna be ok.

We checked it for clearance and there was plenty.

We took a better look at the gears I don't think the one picture is gonna make it.

Seemed like every tooth was broken in some way.
