Good Day:

My injector pump is leaking quite badly now to the point that it does not maintain fuel pressure in the lines and I cannot start the tractor without bleeding it.

I am assuming I can rebuild it or get it rebuilt. How difficult is it to rebuild? Can I remove it from the tractor or does that screw up the timing? Is this a pro only job? I have a moderate amount of skill as a DIYer but not a trained mechanic.

Thanks

Mike

That pump needs a rebuild. Unless you've done one of these jobs before, I'd get it done at a diesel shop. You need high pressure equipment to check these things out.

Depending on the pump it can be tricky since the pump makes one revolution per 2 engine revolutions and different outfits mark in different ways. Having the book always works best, but then it is a remove, take to the pump service center, let them anndle the rebuild and testing, then reinstall, bleed, and you should be back in business.

I called my local friendly dealer and it is an hour job that is done on the tractor plus $55 fee to come and do it at my place instead of me driving the tractor up to their place.

Now to fix the Power steering leak and the hydraulic leak at the pto.

Thanks

Around here its about 1000 can$ to have that type of pump disasembled and rebuilt, if there is excesive wear in the rotor or distributor block the unit is not repairable. If your leaks are all external and not due to internal wear in the pump, you may get away with replacing copper washers and gaskets to seal it up. Sounds easy enough but its a job for the experianced mechanic, cross therad or strip out one of the hi pressure fittings and the pump is scrap.

What is the shop offering to do in one hours work?

G'day I am guessing that it is only the top cover leaking and a seak kit should fix that up easy. If you have not had alot of experience then it is best left to the pro's but there is a thread on here about leaking throttle shafts on a mf135 IIRC (same top cover as yours) that will explain the job and it can be done at home, however if it is any more than that then it really is a specialist job. R&R of the pump unit is not that difficult as they only bolt on the timing gear one way and unless you move/remove the timing gear then you will have no trouble timing the unit, just look for scribe mark on the base of the pump and for one on the timing cover and line these backup and you should be good to go.
