Need more information. Does the PTO work as it should, or only when the lift works? What transmission version do you have? 6 spd,8 spd, multipower or no. You said lift works when tractor is in gear. Do you mean when tractor is actually moving, or simply shifted into certain gears? Single or dual clutch?

So when operating the tractor at increased rpms it works OK but at idle it doesn't. Could be several things.

You said recently it has lost it's ability to lift the 3 PH, is the tractor stored outdoors uncovered? Are the boots to your shift levers split, that will allow water to contaminate your fluid and turn it a sandy tan colour (like the colour in the case of mine shown in the photo). If this is the problem all you'll need to do is drain / replace the fluid and filter (filter top is located lower / center of photo, adjacent to the PTO engage side cover).

Also, there is a standpipe (upper left of photo) coming out of the pump to the diverter, and the o-rings on either end will deteriorate over time. If they are split then you'll lose pressure. The o-rings can be changed without removing the top cover, you'll need to remove the diverter valve to access the standpipe.

If none of these are the problem, check to make sure your pump is putting out good volume and pressure. If it is and all other possibilities check out, then the lift cylinder itself might need the rings replaced.

Let us know what you find.
