Re: How to flush & refill power steering fluid
I think that model had a separate PS system pump kinda like a car. If so , this is what I would do if I were wishing to drain it. You could turn the wheel full one direction and kill the engine, remove both line on the cylinder and let the system drain, push the wheels back the opposite direction by hand (may have to jack up the front wheel) to remove all the oil from the hydraulic cylinder. Reinstall and Tighten the lines, refill the reservoir and with the engine running, cycle the steering wheel back and forth from stop to stop. TOP off the reservoir so as not to run it dry during this operation.
Most tractors today power from the hydraulic reservoir (one system powers all) so when you change the hydraulic filter and oil you get it all. What residuals that are in the double cylinders is neglible in most cases and no need to worry unless the oil is really milky with water then you may want to cycle all the cylinders and set them so the high side is full back so that you can drain the low end of any oil in the lines and cylinders.2010 LS P-7010C 20F/20R gear tractor & FEL, 2009 Kubota B 26 TLB, RTV 900 Kubota, 2012-20 ft 12k GVW trailer, 2011- 52" Craftsman ZTR mower, 54" John Deere 332 lawn tractor, 5.5HP rear tined walk behind tiller, 7 foot bush hog, 8 foot landscape rake , 8 foot 3 PH disc, 2 row cultivator, 350 amp CC/CV AC/DC welding machine and a shop full of tools that I spend more time looking for than using.

Re: How to flush & refill power steering fluid
I just joined, thus I'm new at this. My 231 diesel MF had a broken connection to the pwr strg at front left tire.
I replaced the small brass connector, however I don't know where to fill up the FLUID??? or what fluid to buy???

Re: How to flush & refill power steering fluid
I'm not sure on you paticular model but you can try using AGCO parts listings, here is a link ( AGCO Parts Books ) click on view book under guest, enter your model number and Massey Ferguson, they list 3 or 4 pumps and not knowing which one you have you will have to figure that one out.
Hope this helps

Re: How to flush & refill power steering fluid
A lot of us old Dodge diesel truck owners used the 'turkey baster method' to replace the stock fluid with synthetic. The power steering systems were made by Saginaw Steering Gear [ used to be owned by GM ]... good units, but the weight of the Cummins put a load on the units which were prone to make noise at low temperature. Suck as much fluid out as possible, fill with synthetic, start truck, stop truck..... and repeat a few times. Not as good as draining the unit by taking a line off.... but works...

FORGOT... 'posed to jack up the front end, and turn the wheel lock to lock after each start, too.. [ been 11 years.... since I did it.. ]Last edited by JerryK; 02-25-2013 at 11:24 AM. Reason: forgot steps...
