Sounds like you had + - backwards with your jumpers or the two are backwards of polarity. As far as before it stalled you might have a short somewhere.

What do you mean the two could be backwards of polarity, im new to owning a tractor and just dont know what that means. I also tried to jump the tractor with the positive disconnected from the battery to no avail, but this time the charge gauge read a slightly positive charge? Would a short in the starter do this? and jumper cables still got glowing red hot on the ends, did double check and the werent backwards. going to try to pull start it now but would appreciate any help.

NEED THE RIGHT SIZE WIRE FOR JUMPER CABLES THE #10 WIRE ON MOST CABLES IS TOO SMALL..
TRY A #4 OR BETTER YET AUTOZONE HAS A PAIR 25 FT. LONG #1 CABLE FOR $50.. THAT WILL JUMP MOST CARS AND TRACTORS..
