I have Ford 600 tractor with a front push blade and rear backhoe, just found that the gear ring on the starter flywheel is in very bad shape. Wondering how big/hard of a job is it to split the tractor to get at this flywheel. Is it something anyone with some mechanical skill can do or are there alot of suprises when and specail tools you need when you open it up. Right now my biggest concern is just the blocking, jacking and seperating the two halves. Is it better off just to pay the 1500 and get it trailered into the shop?

does it work? if it does not worth the effort until you are changing a clutch. Not hard to split a 600 ford but you need jackstands, cribbing and a hoist or floor jack.

I might be able to get it to start by pulling the tractor ahead, but it looks like there is a large section of the ring gear with the teeth all damaged. I may try to use it for a few small jobs then get ready for the split.
