    Hi, new to the forum....does anyone know what brand of 10hp motor, would have been standard, on a 1960 JC Penney lawn tractor ??

    Better hope that it is Briggs as Tecumseh no longer exists.
    If you are looking to repower consider some clones out there, cost effective and from all reports they stand up real well.

    A 1960 J C Penny lawn tractor was most likely built by MTD. Model # of unit would be helpful. Are you looking to restore it?

    look and see if the oil sump is what holds the front axle on.
