Hello
I have owned sears tractors since the 70's...

I now own 2... My older tractor I went to pull her out of the shed and she no want to shift... at the end of last year I seem to remember it shifting a bit hard, I thought it might be related to colder weather...
so I have looked for a filler and found nothing.... :cool2:

I do still have my first and 2nd tractor and I think my 2nd tractor is the same rearend...

There should be 2 plugs, one about half way up and one on the top. Clean it off real good and take a look. You can always post a pic.

Yes I did clean it real goor and see nothing it is a 2002 T1000
I think the model # is 179-271652 will have to check in the am

Is it 917? not 179 for the first three. If so, there is no fill plug on your trans. Those units are loaded with bentonite grease. The shifter fork could be binding or the shift keys sticking.

That what I tought (no fill plugs) I did oil the slector balls/springs
I guess when it gets really really bad I will have to chage it with the one from my 1992 craftman tractor.. they look the same bolt pattetrn....
right now I can still make all/most the foward speeds
