8N not starting

My 8n will turn over and it will fire. But when I release the starter button it stops. Does anyone have any useful tips for me?

Sounds like a key switch fault. I'd start there.

Thanks for the tip. Guess I need to trace all through the electrical. The 8n was giving to me, so I cant complain to much. The little thing ran great about three years ago!

Do these units have external ballast resisters ?

If it did and was burnt out it would give the same symptoms.

It does, and to tell you truth it looks like the original one.

Thought about replacing it also.

Electrical meter would come in real handy for this. Heck even a test lamp would suffice.

I put a meter on it. Got voltage every where but the coil.

#2 on the ballast resistor. If it's open, no juice to coil in Run position, only at Start. Check for open.

Thanks Jim I'll check. Wonder if solenoid is wired right. There are 5 wires going to it. I tried the positive battery cable where it said bat on solenoid. Got a big arc. Would not turn over, so I reversed them and it turned over. I just know its got to be something simple.
