Have a JD 709 Rotary Cutter gearbox to go tear up. Needs everything replaced shaft, bearings, gears, seals, etc. Know of anybody who rebuilds these gearboxes? JD wants a arm and leg for a new box and same for the parts. Will another manufacture gearbox interchange and save any money? Thanks folks for any help you can lend.

What caused failure? Bottom seal? 709's have very rugged gearboxes. I've owned a 709 for many years.

Bottom seal started pouring oil and the "starring wheel holder" didn't know and continued to operate until everything torn all to ****. This make the 5th 709 I've owned and never a problem with a gearbox.

There are some chinese boxes on burden or shoup and you can get them on for around 200. I put one on a small woods and it want easy.
I would just get another cutter.
