The tilt steering on my 5225 has been acting up for months ( not locking)and I want to fix it. Upon a little investigation I have found that the gas activated cylinder that locks and unlocks the steering position is normally the culprit. Deere wants approx. $211 for the cylinder..Does anybody know if there is a cheaper way around this? Perhaps after market or a rebuild kit? Thanks in advance.

take old one to auto parts store and see if you can match one

McMaster-Carr has about any size, strength, and end configuration you could want. Less than $211.

McMaster-Carr has almost everything. For what they don't, there's Grainger.
Problem is knowing exactly what you need, and often the correct name you'll find it under. You could probably find a left handed smoke shifter in their catalog if you knew its technical name ;)
