I blew the top seal on my bush hog out last weekend so this morning I dug into it to fix it. A buddy of mine told me that most likely the reason that it failed was because the vent hole got clogged creating pressure until it failed. Sounded reasonable so I started looking around the gear box for a "vent". I don't see anything that looks like it would be one. Is this vent on very BH gear box or just some of them? Where would I look? What does ir look like?

Thanks!

Mike

Almost always the vent plug is the fill plug on top of the gearbox.

Thanks, I'll check that but I'm almost sure the fill plug is nothing more than a square headed bolt. I'll look closely at it though to see if I can see some holes in it.

Check vent to see if its in fill plug. to make sure its not stopped up you can simply blow into it air should escape

I had the seal blow out right after I overfilled it with new oil. I replaced the seal, paid attention to not overfilling, and have not had a problem since.

I have a Bush Hog 720 and I can't get the vent plug out. What size socket does it take?
