I'm restoring a john deere 1010 utility diesel I've rebuilt it from front to back but I can't seem to figure out where this line goes my book doesn't show it maybe a over flow ? any help would be greatly appreciated. It is the one with the alligator clip on it

That is a neat little tractor, and the line is the fuel return line that goes back to the tank. I have read that some tractors have that line tee into the fuel line right before the pump to keep heated fuel to the engine in really cold weather. Would like to see pictures of the restored jewel.

Ditto what milkman stated hose goes from alligator clip to fuel tank.

Yep, return line, it looks like it's snapped at the clip,
you could always attach a rubber fuel line to continue it to the next section or tank.
There's not that much pressure on that line.
