Any possibility you are mistaking a fuel pump with an attached filter or sediment bowl for just a filter? If in any doubt loosen the bolts holding the "fuel filter" in place, pull the "fuel filter" away from the engine and see if there is a lever going into the engine. If so it is a diaphragm type pump, and a leaking diaphragm can cause fuel to leak into the crankcase.

First off, originally we stated we thought our 2400A was the same as a 464. Today I read where someone thought the 2400A was the same as a 454 and the 2400B was the same as a 464. Our engine is a D179 and the injector is a Bosch 32305294, VA3/10H100CR62, 0 460 303 144, not sure which of the 3 numbers is the part #.

We looked again, with a mirror, so we could see behind the filter. I am pretty sure there is no fuel pump.
We decided to take BigDeno's advise and try marking things ourself & go ahead with the pull. We have everything undone and are now stopped at the point of pulling the pump out of the gear. We removed the center nut and thought it might slip out, but so far no luck. We put the nut back on without the lock washer, leaving space for the shaft to move, then set an oak block against it and tried to pry it back with a 3' crow bar, but it didn't move. We have not loosened the 3 bolts shown in the attached picture, around the center shaft, thinking it was not necessary and would change the timing. Does anyone know if we just need to apply more pressure to slip the pump shaft out of the gear, or do we need to remove the other bolts and do something else?

It would be nice if we could find a service manual or a demo showing the proper steps to take. A parts breakdown might help also.
Our tractor S# is 2230026U100814-x. I understand the U = Mfg in USA, and the #'s following the U is the serial #.

Again, thanks for all the help.

We finally got the pump out of the gear. It has a tapered shaft with a keyway. We used a air hammer chisel with a pointed tool, along with a lever behind the air hammer plus 2 wedges between the pump case & housing mount.

The pump did have a blown seal. We have taken it to the injector pump shop for repairs.

Glad that you found the culprit.
Keep us posted on how it turns out.

good deal. blown seal was the probable cause.. but always nice to pull a part down and see a smoking gun vs hoping you found it..etc.
