The head gasket failed while blowing snow with the HT23 a couple of weeks ago.

Of course one needs to pull the engine to get away from the sheet metal on this particular application.

Four broken off cap screws extracted later, I'm waiting on parts order. (That and it's been -15 out in the shop ;-)

Complete gasket and seal kit
Starter motor brushes and springs etc.
New piston rings.
Lap the valves, or resurface if required

Anything else that is a "known service item" on these old engines? (1979, 36272 spec)

I'll probably freshen up the paint on the tin work too, it's been looking a bit shabby ;-) Also add a real oil pressure gauge to replace the idiot light.

Ebay offered up an aluminum "dash board" to replace the plastic piece that sheds pieces and edges everytime something presses against it. Plastic does not age well. I'm looking forward to that. It even comes with a key switch!

If you have the valves out might check the guides or just replace them.
