1964 ford 4000 diesel
I'm fixing up my grandfathers ford and I have a question about electrical system. It's a 1964 ford 4000 diesel. Basic tractor. Wiring seems to be pretty standard.I want to replace solenoids on the tractor but I cannot find the name of the second solenoid. The owners manual says there are two, but one schematic says there is one.
I know one is the starter relay, what's the other called? 12v system
I red ringed the relay in question.

They are both solenoids. One is a starter relay, the other is the air heater relay. Any standard solenoid should work in either place.

Any standard won't work.. get the correct for 4 post isolated base solenoid. it should be a ford 311006 a napa st542 should be equivalent. standard ignition number I THINK is 55567

I stand corrected. An air heater will work with a standard solenoid, but if the original transmission mounted start switch is used, the isolated four post solenoid is needed.

Thanks guys, is there a starter solenoid at napa as well, or should I get the $6 one from yesterdays tractors? If you know anything about clutches I'll be back with some questions as soon as I open this guys up. Good news is it started up like a dream yesterday. Clutch didn't work though. Sheared a pin in it hitting a beaver stump a year ago. Thought it was fixed but no go.

a napa st 542 should be the same type 4 post isolated base relay needed. i believe that is a ford 311006.

not sure of price vs YT.

Sheared a pin where? in the mower or?

Screen Shot 2016-05-04 at 12.11.02 PM.png I hit the stump perfect on the clutch rod bush hogging some blackberry bushes and didn't see it. Spun the clutch arm backwards and bent up my clutch into a U. Result was the pin in the middle of the rod of the clutch arm sheared. I opened it up and replaced the pin. Not sure if spring tension is correct or if I missed something else. looks like another project.

These picks are not of my tractor. just an illustration.

the pin is the one right by the spring

the pin is the one right by the spring

When your clutch was pushed back that hard it could have pushed the throw out bearing, release bearing whatever you want to call it, into the clutch assembly and bent the release arms. Not real sure on your 4000 but my 3000 has 3 levers on the assembly and all 3 were damaged. Mine was damaged in a different way (my neglect) to quit using when the throw out bearing froze and ground them down. It didn't take long to eat them up. Live and learn I guess.

I was wondering if that could have happened? Since I've never looked at one before I had no idea. At least when I break it open I won't be in a field this time. I might even get someone who knows what they are doing to give me some advice this time.
